AK Taxis Portstewart

A good friend of mine recently went into business for himself in the Summer of 2022. He started his own Taxi Service called AK Taxis based in Portstewart. As I had just graduated, this was the perfect opportunity for me to keep my skills sharp by creating a website to help boost his business. My main focus was to make sure the website was mobile first and fully responsive as the majority of potential customers would be accessing this site on their phones.
We're currently working on getting AK Taxis ranked higher on Google.

Portstewart Surf School

Another good friend and colleague asked if I could help design a website for their family surf school and summer beach shop. They have rebranded from Ocean Warriors to Portstewart Surf School. Again, my focus was making the website responsive and having the option for customers to book surf lessons via this portal. This feature is still to be set up, but it will be straight forward enough to link the booking system up with their website.

Juniper Hill Holiday Park - Progressive Web App

Since graduating, I have been working on this major project to create a web app for Juniper Hill Holiday Park. Most good ideas come from trying to come up with a solution to a problem. Working at Juniper Hill and interacting with customers I always wished there was a website or app that I could direct customers to to solve their issues. Be it queries about a bus timetable, details about their license agreement, terms and conditions, directions, instructions on how to use a specific piece of equipment, multiple troubleshooting tips, phone numbers for repairs, directions, etc, this list could go on forever. I believe an app dedicated to answering all the customers questions will help everyone in the long run. It can take the pressure off staff who are faced with the same repetitive questions. It can provide the customer with the clear answers they need in a standardised form across multiple caravan parks.
This is a work in progress, but my goal is to have a finished product that I can trial for use in time for the 2023 season. I hope myself and colleagues can trial this app and iron out any issues as the season progresses. Eventually I will pitch this idea to other local holiday parks.

Juniper Hill Holiday Park - Color Coded Customer Map

On arrival to Juniper Hill Holiday Park, customers are presented with an A4 printout to include a site map and some relevant information. Working here for the last few years, I have redesigned this printout and it can be quite tricky to get right. Trying to include too much information and the map quickly gets cluttered and confusing. Too little information and the map doesn’t serve its purpose at all.
Due to Junipers park layout, navigating the site isn’t always straight forward, especially for new comers. For this reason, being given a quality map of the park is important as without, customers can and do get lost. This makes for unhappy customers and potentially negative reviews.

This particular map was designed for the touring and camping visitors to Juniper Hill, so it allowed me the option of cropping out some sections of the map that don’t apply to touring visitors. I was tasked with designing a map to be included on the council website for touring customers to view during their booking process. This years map is colour coded with a map key and compass for orientation.

Alpha 1 Dog Hotel and Puppy Training - Website

I designed this website for a popular kennels and puppy training business in Coleraine. I noticed they were without a website and were relying solely on Facebook for the online presence. Whilst they are already a thriving business, it is important for a an established business to have a website as a lot of potential customers won't use facebook, so this will help raise their profile further. Also, we feel it would help to have an Instagram account running alongside their facebook socials.

House Sliding Wardrobes and Floors Website

I originally designed a website for this business using a website builder from Big Wet Fish web hosting. This did the trick to get the business online when they first started trading with minimal cost. They recently requested a new website to allow for selling online and have opted to use Shopify as a reliable platform to do this effectively.

Digital CV / Résumés

I think this is a pretty cool way to showcase a cv with a modern twist that some potential employers could find innovative. Using Glitch, I've designed quite a few digital cv's now for friends and family and will offer this as a service for students. at
If you don't know what it is... "Glitch is the friendly place where everyone builds the web. Start a new blog, play with React, or build new worlds with WebXR. Let’s go!" I have found it an excellent way to learn how to code, so I want to run a coding workshop for kids using glitch as the platform to do so.

Collision Autobody Repairs - Website

Collision Autobody Repairs based in Coleraine, is yet another great business that could be improved by having a simple brochure website online to direct customers. Using their available information and content on google and facebook I designed a website to show this business what a working website could look like. We will be developing this website further soon with some direction from the business owner. Again, Glitch is the perfect way to showcase a website in its early stages to pitch to potential clients.

Retain - Firefighter learning website

This major project explores how ‘Blended learning’ can be used as a teaching method within the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) to increase firefighter engagement with learning material.

NW200 Interactive Documentary

The aim of this university project was to create an interactive documentary based around museum archive material provided by Causeway Coast and Glens Museums department. As a local to the Portstewart area, I was lucky enough to get the North West 200 as my project theme. The real challenge with this project was to find a real overarching story to tie all the elements together as a documentary, but I am happy with the result.

Forrest Gump Memoires

This was another university project where we were tasked with remediating an existing media format. The aim of this project was to offer the user a remediated interactive version of the movie, in the form of Forrest Gump’s Memoirs. The end goal was to build a fully functioning website based on the overarching themes that exist within this movie.
